Paramount is simultaneously developing two new Transformers films

The whole point of Transformers is… well… transform… So it shouldn’t be too surprising that Paramount might want to do just that to the Transformers movie franchise. again! Director Travis Knight’s Bumblebee had already softly rebooted the franchise in 2018, with the 1980s adventure tweaking a number of aspects of the original Michael Bay films, but the studio may be looking to ignore it in another. direction. Two directions, in fact.

This is according to a new report from Variety who claims Paramount has filed applications for two new Transformers movie scripts, written by Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Robin Hood) and James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, Murder Mystery), respectively. Now let’s ignore the fact that neither of these two names inspires any form of trust in me, and let’s focus on the interesting part, which is that these two scripts would be developed simultaneously but are unrelated.

It seems Paramount doesn’t know how to continue the franchise after Bumblebee, which was a huge hit with critics and seasoned fans of the original Transformers cartoons, as Knight brought a level of character writing and emotion that Bay never could, but that ended up being the franchise’s least lucrative entry with $ 468 million worldwide. We had heard in March of last year, after some hemming and ragging, that a direct Bumblebee sequel was in the works, but the plans may have changed as Deadline reports that Vanderbilt’s script may be a spinoff based on the popular Beast Wars (robots transform into animals instead of cars).

As for Harold’s script, the details are vague. It could be in the Bumblebee universe or not at all. There’s also no guarantee that just because two scripts are in development, Paramount will actually do both films, as the studio is apparently taking a wait-and-see approach. Hell, none of these new scripts could actually play out and we’d go back to a direct Bumblebee sequel, or one of them could be tweaked to be a Bumblebee sequel. As a huge fan of what Knight did with this movie, I would be a little saddened if we couldn’t continue this story.
